Three Decades Journey to Change the ICT Landscape of Bangladesh

Three Decades Journey to Change the ICT Landscape of Bangladesh

This is the moment of joy and celebrating what Bangladesh Computer Samity (BCS) achieved throughout the three decades in serving the country by developing the IT sector. Therefore, I would like to express my gratitude to all the respected founders, former and current colleagues of BCS for their sincere 35 years of service to BCS in building the digital nation widening the use of ICTs.

We learned a lot from our predecessors who made the great groundwork for the hi-tech industry; they taught us how to sustain and survive with minimum resources, which is now helping us to recover losses we incurred in the last few months for the COVID-19 ruined global economy. BCS has been, from the first day of establishment, working at the grassroots level with initiatives like ICT awareness programs across the country with people from different strata - school children to service holders to retired, organizing ICT expositions in different parts of the country to help rural people to experience and own globally trending technology. BCS is honored to be able to represent the country in global platforms like ASOCIO, WITSA, and other global technology events. The country has also received a number of prestigious awards from ASOCIO and WITSA for integrating ICTs in government and private sectors.

It is promoting the nation in the year-long events, seminars, meetings, fairs, etc. The tech expositions organized by Bangladesh Computer Samity are always thronged by the youths. BCS, too, arranges specific programs - coding and gaming contests, training on outsourcing for them during and after the expositions. As we are at the doorsteps of the 4th industrial revolution and Digital Bangladesh is now a reality, ICT products and services have become a booming industry in the country. With the visionary guidance and steps by the prudent leadership of the current government, the country has taken as a top priority to join the global technology players.

The country has launched its first satellite ‘Bangabandhu- 1’ which has enabled us to offer a wide range of digital services to consumers and save foreign currency. With great enthusiasm, we are awaiting the launch of the second satellite ‘Bangabandhu- 2’. Setting up a countrywide fiber-optic cable network for faster and low-cost internet connectivity at the consumer level has empowered our tech professionals to work globally and earn foreign currency. We now relish the services of Digital Bangladesh with mobile banking, online results of all public examinations, online tax payment among other services. Every year, BCS organizes picnics and other events for the families of its members to celebrate togetherness. Also, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the BCS members for their tender-heartedness and distributing food, clothes, ICT products among the deprived ones.

It is my honor to serve as the president of this prestigious ICT organization of the country, especially at the time of the 35th-anniversary celebration when I got this rare opportunity to welcome you to the event and thank you for the remarkable contribution to the ICT sector. The government’s decision to focus on hardware manufacture and export has opened up yet another avenue for employment. The government is also providing incentives and keeping the national policy updated with the global trend. BCS is working with the government to augment the living standard of the people of the country and to get rid of the digital-divide among the countrymen. I would also like to mention that BCS is not just a trade association, it is more like a big family for each member. BCS maintains an emergency fund to provide aid to members in their difficult times. We arrange training, seminars, and guide our members on VAT and Tax related issues.
